Which bucket would your therapy style fit into primarily?
My therapy style is an eclectic approach which prioritises the client’s lived realities, and heavily draws from the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy & person-centred therapy. I am trained in alternative therapy formats also such as hypnotherapy, tapping, & mindfulness, which are used as additional tools in assisting clients in their mental health journey.
What’s that defining feature of your approach to therapy?
A solution-focused approach which also aims to affirm the client’s lived realities & experiences.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: Targets psychological problems by looking at learned patterns of unhelpful behaviour. Helps better understand and identify distorted thoughts and develop a better sense of confidence in one’s own abilities.
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy: A form of cognitive behavior therapy where a person’s problems are seen as the result of turning healthy desires for success, approval, and pleasure into demands (e.g., “I must achieve this or I am an inadequate person”). Because of its emphasis on thinking, feeling, and acting as integrated processes, REBT uses a variety of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral techniques to interrupt clients’ irrational beliefs and encourage them to think in more rational ways.
Person-centred therapy: Uses a non-authoritative approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions. The therapist acts as a compassionate facilitator, acknowledging the client’s experience without moving the conversation in another direction.
