Which bucket would your therapy style fit into primarily?
My therapy style is trauma focused and I draw a lot from Psychodynamic Relational Therapy.
What’s that defining feature of your approach to therapy?
We define our relationships, our work, and ourselves based on what we have internalized from the world around us. Change then comes from relating differently to our own self and others.
Trauma-informed therapy/approach: Recognizes and emphasizes understanding how a traumatic experience impacts a person’s mental, behavioural, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. This type of therapy is rooted in understanding the connection between the trauma experience and the person’s emotional and behavioural responses.
Psychodynamic Relational Therapy: Accounts for social factors, such as race, class, culture, and gender, and examines the power struggles and other issues that develop as a result of these factors, as well as how they relate to the relationships in a person’s life.
